What seems to be his philosophy of education? - I think his philosophy of education is that you prepare kids for the station in life that they were born into.
In what ways does this interview speak to or reflect your own experiences with education? -it speaks to me because I was raised in Oakland Ca, and did my 1st 3 years of High School in Oakland, I went to a charter school, which in my eyes was not that much a big difference from a public schools in Oakland. A lot of my class mates including me had nights when we hear guns shot in front of our homes or someone was kilt up the street and we still went to school with that heavy on our minds like it was normal, but it wasn't it had a huge affect on our lifes daily. How can I learn about what happen in the 1920's if I am living in a town were I could possibly loose my life by being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Sorry but I cant focus on school curriculums when I am living in a war zone. Here is another video of J. Andrade speaking about poverty and how many people define what's going on in cities like Oakland, Richmond, and Vallejo. I choose this video because since being in this class this is the 1st time ive ever heard of this guy and I love his drive and passion for our community, a community that many fear. Plus he is from the Bay Area which makes it even more relatable in my eyes, It makes a huge difference when the topic is being talked about in a place that you grew up in, because you know what's true and what's not. if this was a video about whats going on in Texas I wouldn't really feel the same because that's another state not someone use to go to school with.
1. For this post assignment, you are asked to first watch this video that was made by 2 students here at Chabot. The movie profiles 6 kinds of community college students. After watching it, please create a post on your own blog that is a response to the movie. Questions you can consider:
Which kind of student do you consider yourself to be? How do you feel about being a ___________ kind of student?
I consider myself to be a mix of a Dreamer and an Explorer, It crazy because sometimes I think its a good and bad thing sometimes, especially when it comes to school. Because I am willing to try new things but If I find that I'm not doing 100% it kind makes me feel dumb or not good enough to continue, which causes me to to stress out. but it can also be a good thing to explore like I'm still young where I can do things like that. Perfect example I am in school for design and apparel and I'm in my 2nd year of fashion and will be graduating next May but sometimes I feel like I didn't make the right choice sometimes and I feel a little stressed.
Do you want to change categories? If I could change my categories, I wouldn't because I love who I' am if I were a just a dreamer I would be a little more scared to live outside of the box sometimes. I think that would be so focused on what I want for my future that I would for get to have fun on the way. But if I were just an explorer I would never be able to sit on an idea and run with it
How might you do so? Honestly the only thing that I might want to change is my confidence in myself and my dreams because it sometimes makes me doubt myself and what I' am in school for.
How can we talk about where students are in their college experience without turning it into a kind of "blamegame?" Whiling to listen as soon as we walk in the door so to say...everybody has a 1st day of school don't wait 2 or 3 semesters to ask me what it is I am planning to do while I'am at school, because in those 2 short semesters I can loose myself and be on the verge to flunking outta school.
What role or relationship does Passion play here?
Passion plays a major role in this situation because its what also keeps me going at the end of the day. even if a teacher and or consular did give me there input on what they think I should do it doesn't mean that I would even take there comments or advise seriously. If I don't feel like what I am being told is out of love a care and not a pay check then ill consider what I was told.
